Local Spotlight: Have Your Cake and…

…put some on the wall!

Bethany Pierce, a local artist, has done some incredible work. Her daily works on cake and other baked goods are lush and intriguing. Their combination of pop art and realism is just plain fun. I met her last year through my sister-in-law and was so impressed by her talent. I want a giant cake painting for my kitchen!

Her work is very broad and not just specifically focused on delicious baked goods. In fact, most of her current works are more abstract. They are just as beautiful.

Ms. Pierce has an upcoming exhibition, milieu intérieur, at the Chroma Projects gallery on the downtown mall.  The show features thirteen of her most recent paintings, each a meditation on a different aspect of human anatomy. The opening will be on Friday, February 4th from 5:00 to 8:00pm and the show runs from Feb. 4th – 24th. Check it out!

I love this painter! I researched her before we moved here and was nervous, thinking there would be a lack of good art/artists down south. How wrong I was . . . and how reassuring it was to find this Wayne Thiebaud-esque painter!
