Interior Still Lives

My mom came to visit yesterday on a whim, and we had the best time together. She continues to inspire me on so many levels, and her visual talent never ceases to amaze me. Here’s a sampling of this knack for design; these are close up scenes from various places in her house. Each vignette feels like a still life painting to me. Scale, color, tone, space, composition. She’s working with all of these categories in arranging these scapes. Not to mention the eye she has to be able to acquire such varied, interesting, and antiqued wares. And I say, why not set up mini-still-lives in your house? That way, there’s always something to sit and admire at the end of the day over a glass of wine.
